History
A full renovation is planned for 2025-2026 to bring the building back to its former glory and allow for it to serve as a retail and commercial hub for the neighborhood for years to come.
Constructed in 1907 with a ground-floor commercial unit and living quarters located on the second floor above, 5434 Magazine was one of the first properties acquired by Oxlot Capital. The 4-tenant building is located in a prime Magazine Street corridor anchored by Whole Foods, local boutiques, coffee shops and workout studios.
The property is located adjacent to the former Ewing Market (c. 1903), one of New Orleans’s many public markets constructed in the early 20th century that served as sparks for surrounding retail activity. The building first served as a bakery and rear extensions were added to house ovens and equipment.
